Terms of Use

Last updated: 9 October 2026

1. Agreement

These terms cover Virtual Diary for iPad, Virtual Diary for Mac, and the website at virtualdiary.app. By using any of them, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the app or site.

The iPad app is distributed through the App Store, so Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement and App Store terms also apply. Where these terms and Apple’s differ, Apple’s terms govern your use of the iPad app.

The iPad and Mac apps are sold separately. Buying one does not unlock the other.

2. Free first page and lifetime unlock

You can download either app for free and write your first page. On iPad, the full diary is unlocked with a one-time In-App Purchase at the price shown in the App Store. It is not a subscription. The unlock is tied to your Apple ID and can be restored on iPads signed in to the same account.

On Mac, the full diary is unlocked with a one-time purchase on this website, which gives you a license key. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use Virtual Diary for Mac for personal use on one Mac you own or control. If that Mac is lost or replaced, a new license is needed for the new Mac; your diary itself comes back through iCloud sync or Import. You may not redistribute the app, or rent, share or sublicense the key.

The iPad + Mac bundle, bought on this website, gives you a Mac license as above and a one-time App Store offer code that unlocks the iPad app when redeemed with your Apple ID. Each code works once and expires a few months after purchase, so redeem it soon.

“Lifetime” means for as long as we offer and support that app, including its updates. It does not include separately sold future products.

3. Payments and refunds

Apple processes iPad payments and their refunds. Mac checkout is processed by Dodo Payments at the price shown at purchase; card details are handled by Dodo, not stored by us. Mac and bundle purchases are final. Both are described in our Refund Policy.

4. Your writing

You own everything you write in your diary. It is stored on your iPad or Mac and, while iCloud is on, in your own iCloud Drive; we never receive it. The iCloud copy and Export help you keep your pages safe, but you remain responsible for your backups. We are not liable for lost entries due to device loss or failure, deleting the app, forgotten passcodes, an iCloud copy that was turned off or could not complete (for example, when iCloud storage is full), or skipped backups.

5. Acceptable use

Use the app for lawful personal journaling. Do not copy, redistribute, or reverse engineer the app except where the law allows, and do not attempt to attack or abuse the website.

6. Intellectual property

We own the app, website, name, and design. You own the words you write. These terms do not transfer ownership of either.

7. Disclaimer

The app and site are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the extent the law allows. We do not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill. Our total liability will not exceed the amount you paid for the app.

9. Changes

We may update the app and these terms. The date at the top shows the current version. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms.
